Helping to inform and inspire young people
Hackney Community College's sessions confirmed for 4 July
The purpose of this pilot is to encourage participants to explore the uses of emerging technologies to benefit the lives of socially excluded groups (learning disability, autism, older people etc).
Working in groups, students will choose a socially excluded group who will benefit from the project. They will then identify their needs, alongside choosing an emerging technology to work with and researching its potential uses. For example, using virtual reality as part of restorative justice, building an app to help people with language barriers etc.
Finally, they will be supported by professionals from the Creative, Digital & Technology sectors, as well as qualified youth workers, to design a project, getting it ‘ready for market’ – before pitching it to an industry expert and funder.
The pilot will also seek to examine the impact of this work on the participants. In doing so, it will utilise researchers from the University of East London, who will conduct a baseline and end-of-project assessment that examines the development in psycho-social areas (self-efficacy etc) and digital skills.
